If you live in Ottawa and haven’t tasted Franks Catering & Baked Goods, you’re missing out. Their sandwiches are hands-down some of the best in the city! Step into their shop on Greenbank Road during lunchtime, and you’ll feel the buzz of a big-city hotspot in this small location. It’s not just lunch, it’s an experience.

The place is vibrant with energy, with a fast-moving line of people ordering sandwiches, friendly and efficient staff, and a variety of goods to choose from. Whether you want to grab freshly made sandwiches, take home favourites like lasagna or chicken parm to heat up later, or wish to indulge in delicious desserts, Franks has you covered. On my recent visit, I bought a couple of sandwiches and baked goods to share with my family. Here’s what we ordered:

Sandwiches

Antie Kelli’s Club. This sandwich is loaded with a generous serving of deli turkey, no skimping, and topped with crispy bacon, tomato, fresh lettuce, Havarti cheese, and mayo. It’s so satisfying!

The Jenn-Eh. A hearty sandwich piled high with savoury pastrami, hot genoa, fresh lettuce, tomato, onions, green peppers, olives, Havarti cheese, and a drizzle of Frank’s signature sauce.

Although I chose to have my sandwiches on a fresh Portuguese bun, you can choose what bread you want from a selection of bread types, including but not limited to wraps and Cheddar Jalapeño buns.

Baked Goods

Pecan Tart: Rich, buttery goodness, filled with sweet, gooey perfection that melts in your mouth.

Lemon Cannoli: A light and creamy filling with zesty citrus peel in a crispy golden-brown shell.

Iced Lemon Blueberry Scone: Blueberry scone topped with a tangy-sweet lemon glaze. A perfect combination of sweet and tart.

For the record, this is not sponsored content, just my unbiased opinion. As always, my family and I enjoyed everything we ordered. Franks’ generously stacked sandwiches are perfect for sharing, though you may not want to, they’re that good. Their menu offers a wide selection of food and everything is affordable. Some sandwiches feature hot eggplant which I highly recommend. Regardless of what you order, Franks is a wonderful gem, a must-visit destination for sandwich lovers and foodies. Pairing

This blog wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t offer food-drink pairing suggestions. What would I pair with Franks? Honestly, I tend to gravitate to good old soda pop when I eat these types of sandwiches. If you’re hosting a group lunch with Franks sandwiches and would like to serve wine, here are some ideas. A Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine, made in the traditional method, is incredibly versatile. It will work with many sandwiches, and would be delightful with the club mentioned above.

For red wine lovers, Beaujolais is an excellent choice. Since it’s light-bodied, it won’t overpower deli turkey or chicken, yet as a red wine, it will be strong enough to hold up to pastrami and salami.

As for dessert, I’d personally opt for English Breakfast or Earl Grey tea with the scone. For something more decadent, pair a glass of Moscato d’Asti with the lemon cannoli, or Tawny Port with the rich buttery pecan tart.

I visited Franks at 283 Greenbank Road in Nepean.
